The sounds of pipes and drums reverberated in Valletta this morning as thousands of scouts and girl guides held their annual parade in the capital.

Beavers as young as five years and members of the Fellowship of Scouts, some of whom are in their 70s, joined the thousands of scouts and guides in the parade, accompanied by 14 bands.

Since this is the International Year of Voluntary Work, a number of NGOs joined the parade, including the Salesian Brigade with its band.

The parade marched past President George Abela, who stood on a dais outside the Palace.
