A newly-formed association representing Nigerians living in Malta paid a courtesy visit on President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca last week.

Committee members from the Nigerian Association of Malta and Gozo introduced themselves to the President and explained their association's goals.

The association estimates that there are as many as 2,000 people of Nigerian descent living in Malta. It was established in early September.

With no embassy or consulate in the country, the association, which is led by president Patrick Umanah, hopes to serve as an official point of contact between Nigerians in Malta and Maltese authorities.

The association will also work to promote social and economic development and offer the government advice on its inclusion and integration policies.

All Nigerian citizens, people of Nigerian descent and their family members are welcome to join the association.
