Police have raided a house used by a suspected cell of the Islamic State group in south-eastern Turkey, triggering a clash that killed up to seven militants and two policemen, according to Turkish media reports.

The state-run Anadolu agency said two police officers were killed by booby-trap bombs during the operation launched against the IS cell in the city of Diyarbakir. Four other police officers were injured.

Anadolu did not give a figure for the number of militants who died, but the Dogan news agency said seven militants were killed in a shootout while three others were arrested.

Officials from the Diyarbakir governor's office could not be reached for comment.

It was not immediately clear if the operation was linked to suicide bombings at a peace rally in the capital, Ankara, earlier this month which killed 102 people. One of the bombers was identified as an IS militant.

Armoured police vehicles sealed off a road where officers launched the raid, Dogan video footage showed. Heavy gunfire could be heard.
