‘No distinction between Castille and Mile End’: Borg slams 'PL stunts'
PN leader claims PL leader cancelled TV debate
Alex Borg on Monday claimed there is no distinction between the government and the Labour Party, and that the government is using all its resources to remain in power.
“Over the past few days, we saw how the government is using all its resources to ensure it clings to its seat of power. We are now seeing a government that can no longer distinguish between Castille and Mile End,” the Opposition leader told party faithful at an event in Żurrieq.
He said government billboards across the island were now promoting Labour’s proposals.
Borg added that the only reason the government called an early election - a year before it was due - was because PL believed it had a political advantage.
“They thought they would catch the PN on one leg, or that we are not prepared. We have a Prime Minister who is irresponsible, a Prime Minister who considers his personal interests before those of his country.”
The PN leader said Abela had been the only EU leader absent from an EU summit on Monday.
“That is how much the international crisis concerns him,” Borg added.
He also claimed Abela cancelled a debate with him on Savour Balzan’s Xtra.
“That is how much he doesn’t want to debate with me. He decided to do a no-show, but I am always ready and prepared to debate at any time.”
During the activity in Żurrieq, Borg said the party had many more measures to announce, and, unlike that of PL, the PN campaign was not built on empty words and PR stunts.
“The government is throwing money at people now - just days before the election - after ignoring them for years,” he added.
Borg listed the proposals that the party has announced so far, including increasing stipends by 25%, launching a network of hospitals across Malta and Gozo and providing all cancer medicines for free.
The party has also promised to cut electricity bills by investing €60 million in solar panels to reduce energy generation costs and remove meter rental fees for residential properties, farmers and voluntary organisations.
Shadow Minister Mark Anthony Sammut, PN candidate Jonathan Cutajar and former president of the Chamber of Engineers Malcom Zammit, were present for the Monday evening discussion.
