Imam Mohammed El Sadi said this evening he did not believe there were any Islamic extremists in Malta.
Speaking on Times Talk, which tonight discussed whether Islam is to blame for the Paris attacks, the Imam again unreservedly condemned the attacks which he had described as an insult to Prophet Mohammad, and said extremists were created by dictators.
Al-Qaeda and Islamic State, he said, were Hezbollah's top enemies.
He said that when he spoke at the Mosque and during the Friday meetings, he always spoke against terrorism and that Muslims should not have anything to do with terrorism and he believed this had worked.
The Imam's comment came following a comment sent in by a viewer noting that Muslims should make their voice heard and take action against radicals.
Columnist and anthropologist Ranier Fsadni and Fr Joe Borg also took part in the programme. Former European Court of Human Rights Judge Giovanni Bonello spoke about the limits of the right to offend through satire.
Presented by Times of Malta’s head of media Herman Grech and chief reporter Mark Micallef, this evening's edition of Times Talk will be repeated on Wednesday on TVM at 8.30am and another on TVM2 on Wednesday at 1pm. The programme will be available on demand tomorrow on timesofmalta.com.
