Government entities will, from April 16, no longer require people to provide birth, marriage or death certificates because departments will get them directly from the registry, at no cost to the applicants.

Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said said the idea was to cut bureaucracy, improve collaboration among government departments and make better use of the government's IT system.

Employees who had access to civil status certificates were bound by strict confidentiality regulations in line with the Data Protection Act, Dr Said added.
