When asked which part of the upcoming event makes him most nervous, Wayne Micallef reples with a cocky: “I’m not scared.” Having already taken part in the Malta Eurovision song contest four times, the singer probably feels at home in the midst of all the buzz and panic that participants tend to be surrounded with! Why try again, I ask?

“The contest is a good way to promote music in Malta. It’s all about fun, you know. After all, this gives you the opportunity to go and perform your music on Malta’s biggest stage!”

Wayne’s father was a singer and musician himself and Wayne says that this definitely influenced him. My question as to why he believes he deserves to win is answered very pragmatically:

“No-one deserves to win. If you want it, you have to perform. My song is called Time and I wrote and produced it myself. This is really my style of music. The song is about waiting, about trying to cope with everyday life and being lost in a daily routine that doesn’t make any sense anymore… but the waiting also gives you the strength to carry on because you know that one day it will all be worth it and life will be complete.”

As for all those Eurovision critics, Wayne says, well... if they think they can do better they can get up on stage and show us!
