There will be no charges for the replacement of ID Cards with the new e-ID Cards, the Infrastructure Ministry said this afternoon.

The ministry said yesterday that the first e-ID cards will be issued at the end of this year and will feature new security features.

The Electoral Office, meanwhile, said this morning that more rigorous procedures had been introduced to avoid a repetition of a recent case of identity theft where a woman was granted an ID card under somebody else's name. People seeking a replacement for an ID card which they would have lost now have to produce official documents to prove their identity.
