Meetings are currently being held for a final decision to be taken on the best locations for two surveillance radars for air traffic services ordered and completed in 2009.
Finance minister Tonio Fenech said in parliament today that Malta Air Traffic Services in March 2009 bought two Monpulse Secondary Surveillance Mode S Radars from the Italian company Selex Sistemi Integrali. The two sets were to be completed within six months.
The Italian company observed the agreement and the radar sets were factory tested.
Sites were identified for the radars and meetings are being held for a final decision to be taken.
Air traffic approach services are currently provided by a MSSR radar at Luqa airport. It conforms to EU rules, Mr Fenech told Labour MP Joe Mizzi.
