I received various e-mail messages on our item on this subject last Sunday, from which I must quote the following excerpts:

Since April this year, legislation enforces no smoking in all enclosed public places (including all outlets other than restaurants and bars). So outlets like Marks & Spencer stores by law should not allow smoking on the premises (except, ironically, in bars/restaurants within the same premises).

Bars and restaurants over 60 square metres will go no-smoking (except for separate and enclosed smoking areas) in October, while those under 60 square metres will become no-smoking (except for separate and enclosed smoking areas) in April, 2005.
