Noah and Emma were the most popular names for newborns last year, although Ellie was the most popular name for newborn girls in Gozo, the Identita' agency said on Tuesday. Matteo and Valentina were the most popular in 2024.
It said there were 4,368 births in Malta and Gozo last year, 79 fewer than the previous year. There were 123 more boys than girls.
There were 4,176 deaths.
The most popular names were Noah, Luca and Matteo for boys in Malta and Gozo, Emma, Emilia and Leah for girls in Malta and Ellie, Valentina and Mia for girls in Gozo.
Ġanni and Luċija remained the most popular Maltese-spelt names for the fourth year.
Identita said 91% of births last year were registered at its Mater Dei Hospital office.
It said 2,240 marriages were registered in Malta and Gozo last year, compared to 2,021 in 2024. 171 marriages were registered in Gozo.
Only one civil union was registered, along with 65 cohabitations.
