Nomination of candidates for election to Veterinary Surgeons’ Council now open

Persons residing in Malta and who are registered in the Veterinary Register are eligible

The election commission, appointed in terms of the Veterinary Services Act (Cap. 437), is receiving nominations of candidates for election to the Veterinary Surgeons’ Council until July 17 at 1pm.

The nominations are to be sent to Daniel Bugeja at the Veterinary Surgeons’ Council, Triq il-Biċċerija, Marsa, MRS1123, or scanned by e-mail on vsc@gov.mt. If sent by e-mail, the original needs to be sent by post.

Persons residing in Malta and who are registered in the Veterinary Register are eligible and have the right to be nominated, to be seconded, to nominate and to second and to vote for the election of members of the Veterinary Surgeons’ Council.

Candidates shall be nominated on the appropriate form, copies of which may be collected from Bugeja at the above-mentioned address, or on request by e-mail on vsc@gov.mt.

If the number of nominations received is greater than the number of council vacancies, an election will be held to fill in the respective vacancies on July 21 between 8am and 5pm. Voting will be online and eligible candidates will receive their link to vote on the e-mail address they have registered with the Veterinary Surgeons’ Council.

The names of all candidates contesting the election will be made available to all eligible voters by e-mail on July 18.

Any registered veterinary surgeon who believes that the e-mail address held at the Veterinary Surgeons’ Council is not up to date should send an e-mail to vsc@gov.mt to ensure receipt of the list of candidates contesting the election should this be the case.

Any registered veterinary surgeon, who is eligible to vote but will not have access to an internet connection during election time, may authorise another eligible veterinary surgeon to serve as his/her proxy.

Proxy forms duly filled in and signed need to be received by Bugeja at the above-mentioned address by not later than July 18 at noon, and will be valid only should the election be necessary. Scanned copies sent by e-mail to vsc@gov.mt will be accepted, however the original needs to be sent by post later.
