Right now, I, a person with disability, am not ecstatic with joy. Maltapost is commemorating Elton John's visit to Malta by an issue of a miniature sheet. When I made a request last year for the issue of a stamp, commemorating 2003 as the European Year of People with Disability, Maltapost gave a very lame and banal excuse and this request was not accepted.
Why is this visit being seen as exceptional when this is purely a private financial venture and its lasting repercussions are fleetingly minimal, while we, people with disability, with our own stamp, will remain disabled, but will have gone up a stage where equality and recognition might have made a little dent in public opinion?
