NOUV event sparks conversation on balancing brains and bots in AI age
Expert-led talks, live panel discussion and opportunities to network
NOUV brought together over 100 professionals, thought leaders and innovators for a high-impact event titled ‘Balancing Brains & Bots’ − a business breakfast focused on the critical intersection of human ingenuity and artificial intelligence.
The event, held at the Mistral Lounge at Salini Resort, featured expert-led talks, a live panel discussion and opportunities to network over breakfast. It highlighted how businesses can embrace innovation without losing sight of the human elements that drive purpose, creativity and sustainable growth.
Featured speakers
During the event, Maria Varga, director, performance optimisation and transformation at NOUV, discussed ‘The Human Engine: Driving Growth Without AI’. Her talk explored how, throughout history − even long before the rise of AI − humans have consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt, innovate and overcome challenges, often turning periods of crisis into opportunities for growth and recovery.
Andrew Naudi, senior partner, technology at NOUV, spoke on ‘Re-imagining Optimisation for the Next Era’, showcasing AI-powered case studies in logistics, finance and healthcare. He stressed the importance of ethical adoption, real-time agility and empowering employees with smarter systems − not replacing them.
Panel discussion
Moderated by Naudi, the panel discussion featured Alexiei Dingli, AI expert and professor at the University of Malta; Angela Attard Fenech, head of governance, Tumas Group; Rebecca Bonnici, CEO, BELS English Language Schools; Paul Borg Bonaci, managing director, Elia Caterers; and Graziella De Martino, director of technology advisory, NOUV.
Topics ranged from ethical AI, workforce transformation, automation boundaries and the leadership skills needed for the future of work.
Real voices from the room
The conversation was not only top-down − it was deeply felt and widely shared.
Panellist Rebecca Bonnici, CEO of BELS, said: “AI is the engine − but people are the fairy dust. Tools don’t transform; human insight does.” Business development leader Neil Baldacchino commented how the “really insightful” panel discussion was packed with “thought-provoking perspectives on whether AI is replacing jobs or enhancing productivity”.
Francesca Zammit, senior associate, NOUV, said she was “proud to be part of a team that’s leading the conversation on how people and technology can grow stronger together”.
Leadership consultant Colin Calleja noted that the event inspired him to reflect “on how AI and human capital can work hand-in-hand − especially in the context of Industry 5.0”.
And Michael Calleja, a financial services lawyer from Aspida Group, highlighted how the event “tackled critical issues like privacy, accountability and the importance of not scaling inefficiencies through automation”.
Powerful message
The business breakfast reinforced a powerful message: the future isn’t about choosing between brains or bots − but about balancing them.
