The Social Policy Ministry still has to decide on the best way forward after two leading UK medical colleges submitted proposals to set up medical teaching centres in Malta.

The minister, John Dalli, said in Parliament that the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland had shown an interest in offering university level medical courses in Malta. St George’s College of the University of London had offered to do likewise in association with the University of Malta.

A committee set up by the government had requested more details and representatives of the two institutions delivered presentations in Malta, Mr Dalli said. The committee had submitted its report to the governemnt and a decision still had to be taken on the best way forward.

The minister was replying to a question by Evarist Bartolo (MLP) who asked what had become of the proposal by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, who first met Malta Enterprise officials in September 2008
