A 52-year-old woman who was injured in a traffic accident in Pembroke last week has died, the police said. 

Marthese Zarb succumbed to the injuries following the accident in Triq Sant’ Andrija last Saturday. The victim and her 18-year-old son were passengers in her husband's car when it crashed into another vehicle driven by a 41-year-old man from Zabbar.

State broadcaster TVM said her family had agreed to donate her organ and the transplants are expected to take place in the coming hours.

Ms Zarb, her son, and the other driver all sustained grievous injuries while her husband escaped with slight injuries.
