The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses has advised its members to report for work in plain clothes as from Wednesday at 7 p.m. if they feel uncomfortable in their uniform.
In a letter to health director general Ray Busuttil, the union said that nurses and midwives in the public sector were still awaiting their new uniform that was meant to have been handed out on May 1.
This was a recurring situation whenever changes to the uniform were agreed on to the detriment of nurses and midwives, the MUMN claimed in a statement.
The union argued that the Health Division was not keeping to the agreement reached and although the union had tolerated the situation for two months, it was not prepared to jeopardise the health and safety of its members further because of an inadequate uniform.
