A two-hour meeting was held yesterday between the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses and the government over the collective agreement.

Union vice-president Thomas Dimech said that during the "positive" meeting the union explained its proposals in detail. Another meeting will be held on October 29 during which the union expects to receive counter-proposals from the government.

After the union failed to receive acceptable counter-proposals to its requests last month, it had issued directives that were followed by its 2,000 members. Talks between the government and the union were reopened on September 29.
