During February and March, the OASI Foundation Primary Prevention Team held ASK (Active Search for Knowledge), a preventive programme aimed at Year 4 and 5 students, their teachers and parents.
ASK has three main aims: first to encourage and empower children to think with their own mind, to put their thoughts into pictures and/or words, and to act on them; second, to motivate children to ask questions about the topic being discussed in an anonymous, non-threatening way, and to get honest answers from the OASI officials; and third, to enhance and clarify teachers' and parents' perceptions and attitudes about harmful substances and helps them to develop effective communication skills.
The OASI Primary Prevention Team is preparing to implement other educational programmes, such as Studio 4, aimed at Year 6 students, tackling the issue of communication and self-esteem.
