'Obscene' - Adrian Delia and Alex Borg slam new planning bills

Both PN leadership contenders criticise proposed laws, call for 'serious' public consultation

PN leadership contenders Adrian Delia and Alex Borg on Saturday heavily criticised the proposed amendments to two Bills which are being rushed through parliament without public consultation.

In their separate social media posts, Delia described the bills as "obscene" while Borg called for a "serious consultation process" where everyone can have their say.

Delia accused the government of "selling its soul" and wanting to "silence and suppress anyone who has the right to speak out".

"[The government] wants to steal power from the courts and take all authority into its own hands," Delia said, adding Malta's environment was about to be ruined "once and for all".

Borg said the proposed changes and the rushed way in which they were being implemented showed a prime minister who "listens to no one and favours whoever suits him".

He insisted "politics must be done differently" and announced that, if elected PN leader, he would organise a national convention to discuss the country's challenges, a platform that would welcome "everyone".

In a separate statement, the Nationalist Party condemned the bills, warning they would have "disastrous consequences" on the environment and people's quality of life.
