A call for expressions of interest for a “recreational and educational motor sport park” was launched this morning by Sports Parliamentary Secretary Chris Agius.
He said the call, for the development and possibly the operation of an educational and recreational motor sport park, will close on January 20.
A committee had drafted a report on recommendations for the track.
Besides attracting motor enthusiasts in Malta and abroad, it would also have a strong educational element to help reduce roadside fatalities, Mr Agius said.
Asked whether the fact that it was being labelled 'educational' meant it could be built in outside development zones, Mr Agius said environmental laws would be adhered with, and he would leave it up to the privatisation unit to select the best site for project.
Asked if land which was already committed to development would be preferred, Mr Agius said he would leave the decision up to the privatisation unit.
