A 1,000-strong congregation, made up mostly of officials, parents and their siblings, recently attended Mass at the Corradino Sports Pavilion to mark the official opening of the Hibernians' nurseries which cater mainly for football, basketball and judo.
Fr George Deguara celebrated Mass. Assocjazzjoni Sportiva Hibernians president Tony Bezzina then made a short speech in which he explained the main objectives of his sporting organisation.
Other personalities who made brief interventions included officials from the three nurseries and Paola Local Council mayor Raymond Attard. A formal presentation of all coaches for the various age categories followed.
Special guest for the occasion was Jesmond Mugliett, Parliamentary Secretary for Sport. He spoke highly of the AS Hibernians initiatives which, he said, delivered the goods because they had all the required ingredients to achieve success, namely, an efficient organisation and an obsessive penchant for progress.
Mr Mugliett presented a cheque to football nursery chairman George Demajo and another one of Lm2,000 to AS Hibernians which was received by Mr Bezzina.
This financial assistance was a grant by government to be utilised for the repairs of the canopy at the Corradino Sports Pavilion, one of the venues for next year's Games of the Small States of Europe.
