Towering hazard

Is this a monument to the authorities’ diligence? The concrete barriers tower rather precariously more than eight metres above road level. According to residents, this has been rising for several months from deep within the quarry in Labour Avenue, Naxxar. Have the powers-that-be turned a blind eye to this towering hazard?

In the dark

The stretch of road between the Mosta bridge and T’Alla w Ommu hill is completely in the dark. Not a single street lamp has ever been installed there. The sharp bends in the area are barely visible. To add insult to injury, there are several potholes throughout: an accident waiting to happen.

Up in smoke

Last week, dust from a construction site in Independence Avenue, Mosta caused quite an inconvenience, not to say danger, too, when drivers complained being unable to properly see through the smoke, the result being long traffic jams. The problem persisted for days. Why is this still being allowed to happen?

Unsightly views

This is the view from the entrance of the island’s capital city, the focal point of next year’s EU presidency and the European capital of culture the following year. Very welcoming indeed!

Too confusing

Why is it that temporary signs erected while road works are taking place are not removed once the works are done? This is the case in Birkirkara Road, San Ġwann, where drivers coming from Mrabat are met with a frenzy of signs, some with black tape across them and each one contradicting the other. This only serves to confuse drivers. Who is responsible to put down signs when works are done? Again, where are Transport Malta and the Road Safety Committee?
