Is it so difficult to make sure that spelling on road signs is checked before the boards are mounted? A sign just off the Marsa bypass had two spelling errors. Paola was misspelt as ‘Poala’ and Fgura appeared as ‘F Gura’. Now, of course, we all make mistakes – and, yes, people in glasshouses should not hurl stones – but this appears to be a case of negligence rather than genuine human error.

Tickets nuisance

Kiosks are sprouting up all along The Strand, from Sliema to Gżira. There are about 30 of them already. Tourists are being stopped repeatedly and, although the ticket touts are not nearly as aggressive as their timeshare colleagues of the past, the sheer quantity is becoming quite a nuisance.

Bike space

The government is encouraging people to ditch their cars in favour of motorbikes and scooters but it now needs to follow it through. On Ġlormu Cassar Avenue, in Valletta, all the spaces allocated for bikes are snapped up early in the day and, one afternoon last week, there were six scooters parked in between cars – hardly the ideal situation.

Bus frustration

Changes made recently in the public transport system included route number 66. The bus no longer goes through Birguma and San Pawl tat-Tarġa, with residents complaining they are now dependent only on route 260.

Black spot

Could the authorities do something about motorists parking at the petrol station at the top of the hill on Rue d’Argens, Sliema? This practice poses a hazard to pedestrians and, given the increased traffic due to road works in the area, the danger of an accident occurring is no longer a matter of if but when. There is also no room for wheelchairs or pushchairs to go through. Action is urgently needed before somebody gets hurt, or worse.
