One World...The South Malta Local Plan
Xghajra, Tarxien
What are the proposals for Xghajra?
Xghajra is the smallest of all localities in this plan area. Although it has a residential function it is also a main tourist locality with locals during the summer. The plan proposes an improvement of the promenade, identifying an Entertainment Zone and a road link with the Ricasoli industrial estate to provide an alternative entrance and exit from this locality.
The plan covers the pedestrianisation of Church Street (SMXA 01); an improved pedestrian access to Xghajra primary school (SMXA 02); promenade improvements (SMXA 03); deletion of road widening (SMXA 04); a road link to Ricasoli industrial estate (SMXA 05) and the rezoning of part of the green area at Triq il-Fortizza tal-Grazzja.
What are the proposals for Tarxien?
Tarxien is both a residential and commercial locality still retaining elements of the traditional Maltese village. The plan proposes better traffic management and the improvement of sports facilities. A large undeveloped area at il-Qalgha is proposed for comprehensive development for a mix of residential, community, recreational and commercial uses.
The plan covers the provision of sports facilities on a site between Triq Cikku Saliba and Triq Kelinu Cachia (SMTA 01); the rezoning of white area in Il-Qalgha (SMTA 02); social and community facilities at Triq l-Alfier de Medran (SMTA 03); and traffic management and environment improvements (SMTA 04).
