The staging of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni, at the Manoel Theatre, will bring to an end another edition of the Bank of Valletta Opera Festival.

The opera in two acts, to be presented on Saturday and Sunday, centres around the legendary 17th century lover Don Juan, and was first performed in Prague in 1787.

Artistic direction will be under Mauro Avogadro while musical director Michael Laus will again conduct Malta's National Orchestra.

The plot is set in 1600 Seville. Don Giovanni has just unwittingly killed Donna Anna's father, the Commendatore, in a duel and Don Ottavio, Anna's bethrothed, swears vengeance on the perpetrator.

This year's festival also featured Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti and an operatic concert featuring the soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre (Kirov).

Moreover, it has been enhanced through the hosting of two additional concerts, namely a concert featuring popular operatic arias and a lunchtime concert comprising Favourite Romanze de Salotto arias.
