Organisers of the Oregon Track Classic have cancelled this year's meeting due to the lack of a major sponsor for the event held near Portland.

The 15-year-old meeting had been scheduled to take place on May 14 but the cancellation leaves the talent-rich United States with just two IAAF grand prix meetings.

"We regret having to cancel what has been one of the very best track and field meets in the US," organiser Paul Banta said.

"We had hoped to attract a new patron to replace long-time sponsor Adidas but the timing was less than ideal for 2005."
