Geoff Ogilvy was dubbed the marathon man after winning the 2006 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and the Australian has followed a similar pattern to reach the quarter-finals at this year's event. He needed extra holes to win his first two matches at Dove Mountain before beating Colombia's Camilo Villegas 2&1 in Friday's third round. Three years ago, Ogilvy completed a tournament record of 129 holes over the five days.

American Ted Ligety kept his giant slalom crown in Kranjska Gora with victory at the Slovenian resort for the second year in succession yesterday. The super-combined Olympic champion, starved of World Cup podiums so far in 2009, set the record straight in two minutes and 19.92 seconds. Super-G champion Didier Cuche had to be content with second place, 0.19 seconds adrift. Italy's Massimiliano Blardone was third, 0.34 behind.

New Zealand cricket officials will beef up security during their five one-day matches against India after crowd problems in Friday's Twenty20 international. Play was briefly halted near the end of the match when a plastic bottle was thrown onto the field near an Indian fielder. The Indian team raised the matter with the match referee and New Zealand Cricket boss Justin Vaughan said security would be stepped up for the rest of India's tour.

Diving

Olympic diving gold medallist Matthew Mitcham recorded six perfect 10s to win the 10-metre platform title at the Australian championships yesterday. Mitcham, who produced the highest-scoring dive in a major championship to snatch the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics last year, racked up his highest score in any competition with a superb display yesterday.
