Cycling - British champion killed
British time trial cycling champion Jason MacIntyre was killed on Tuesday after being knocked off his bike by a van while training in Scotland.
The 34-year-old, a 25-mile time trial champion and Commonwealth Games competitor, died after the collision near his home in Fort William, northern Scotland, Northern Constabulary said in a statement.
MacIntyre was airlifted from the scene but died on his way to hospital in Glasgow.
MacIntyre, at the peak of his form after a great 2007 campaign, was hoping to make the British Olympic team and his death came a day after he had been given funding to train for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Boxing - Naito asks for more time
This month's WBC flyweight title fight between champion Daisuke Naito of Japan and Thai Pongsaklek Wongjongkam has been postponed after Naito requested more time to prepare.
"The Japanese claim their fighter has been busy so they say they will move the fight back one month," promoter Piyarat Wachirattanawong was quoted as saying.
"We are satisfied because Pongsaklek will have more time to prepare."
The eagerly awaited re-match, which had been slated for January 28 in Saraburi, Thailand, would have been Pongsaklek's first chance to win back the title he defended 17 times in six years before the surprise loss to Naito last July.
Cricket - Saqlain wants to play for England
Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has said he would like to play for England once he qualifies in April. Saqlain, 31, who took 208 wickets in 49 tests for Pakistan, has played county cricket for 10 years and possesses a British passport through marriage.
"If they (England) call me, definitely I'll play," Saqlain told BBC London. "I've been discussing with my family and friends and they've all been saying 'Saqqy, if they give you the chance, definitely go for it'."
Saqlain last played for Pakistan in 2004.
Athletics
Former world 400m champion Ana Guevara, of Mexico, said yesterday she was retiring from the track because of a lack of support from sports authorities.
Guevara, 30, won the world title over the one lap in Paris in 2003 and also took Olympic silver in Athens a year later.
