Outages interrupt Conference League match, cause disruption in many localities

Power outages interrupted a UEFA Conference League match and caused disruption in several localities on Tuesday evening as the power distribution network buckled under extreme temperatures and record demand.

Ta' Qali football stadium was plunged into darkness during the second half of a  UEFA Conference League match between Floriana and Drita of Kosovo.

Power was briefly lost and restored three times, during apparent attempts to get a generator going, leading the referee to add 13 minutes of extra time, during which both teams scored.

Meanwhile, Enemalta's outages webpage reported outages in Vittoriosa, Qormi, Ghaxaq, Gudja Hamrun, Kalkara, Luqa, Marsa, Paola, Pieta, Sta Lucija and Tarxien.

Readers also reported a power cut in Mosta, about the same time as power went out at Ta' Qali.

Iklin and Zejtun meanwhile reported relief after outages lasting many hours, although parts of Iklin which did not have a power cut on Monday had one on Tuesday evening.
