Over 2,000 participants complete 78 Pastoral Formation Institute courses

2024-25 year saw a marked rise from the previous year’s 1,052 participants across 28 courses.

The Pastoral Formation Institute (PFI) recently marked the end of its academic year, after having accompanied over 2,000 participants in 78 courses, a significant increase from last year’s 1,052 participants across 28 courses.

Throughout the year, PFI built on its strong foundation by expanding its diverse course offerings in scripture, theology, spirituality, pastoral care, liturgy and safeguarding.

It continued to deliver short, focused courses in Maltese, with English options available. Learning formats included in-person sessions, hybrid classes and self-paced online modules, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for all participants.

The institute also made a substantial investment in infrastructure, including a revamped recording studio, three new classrooms and upgraded tech for high-quality hybrid learning.

Two new staff members joined the PFI staff, bringing in fresh perspectives and energy.

The end-of-year celebration began with a thanksgiving mass led by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi, followed by a moment of community sharing among students, lecturers and staff to reflect the shared growth and spirit that defined the year.

During the event, PFI launched its 2025-26 prospectus, reaffirming its mission to form faithful, forward-thinking lay leaders in response to the Church’s call for pastoral renewal.

The new academic year will offer both returning and new courses in areas such as creative ministry, deepening faith, ethics, technology and faith, and more.

Guided by the vision of the Second Vatican Council and Pope Francis’s Evangelii Gaudium, PFI remains committed to shaping faith-driven leaders who are ready to serve the world of today.
