Several voluntary organisations working in the sphere of social inclusion have been granted a total of €2,026,555 (Lm870,000) by the Family and Social Solidarity Ministry.

Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina presented the cheques to the organisations on Thursday, saying that during the last legislature more than €8.9 million (Lm3.83 million) had been invested in assistance to voluntary organisations.

She said that NGOs provide sterling services that complement the government's own efforts.

This year's funding, which has been increased by €209,644 (Lm90,000), will go towards new projects to be carried out by the organisations.
