Overnight police inspections lead to arrest of 19 irregular migrants
Individuals detained in Ħamrun, Qormi and St Paul's Bay will be repatriated
Police arrested 19 migrants during overnight inspections in several localities after they were found to be living in Malta irregularly.
Inspections in Ħamrun and Qormi led to the arrest of 10 people from Syria, The Gambia, Côte d'Ivoire and Niger.
A further nine individuals from Albania, Syria, Ghana, Bangladesh, The Gambia and Mali were arrested in St Paul’s Bay.
Police said all those arrested were found to be living in Malta irregularly.
The migrants are being held at a detention centre under the responsibility of the Detention Services Agency while arrangements are made for their return to their countries of origin.
The inspections were carried out by police with the assistance of officials from the Detention Services Agency.
In a statement, the authorities said Malta would continue to honour its obligations in the field of immigration while ensuring compliance with the country's laws.
