Over 4,000 tickets have already been snapped up for the Australian Pink Floyd Show, widely tipped as the greatest tribute band on the rock circuit.

The concert might be seven weeks away but the demand for tickets has been overwhelming, the organisers told a news conference yesterday.

A 60-foot stage will be erected, complete with pyrotechnics and light effects at Luxol Grounds on June 25 for what promises to be one of the year's musical highlights.

The Australian Pink Floyd have been showered with rave reviews wherever they have played, often being described as a reincarnation of the legendary band.

They are the only tribute band to have played at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall and have five dates pencilled in South America next month.

The Australian band was given the blessing by Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour, while most of the crew actually worked with the band that influenced two generations.

The show is a magnificent light, sounds and visual spectacle that will take the audience through the band's classics, like Comfortably Numb, Money and Another Brick in the Wall.

Mario Camilleri, from Pres International, co-organisers of the event along with The Point Productions, said the demand for tickets clearly manifested the huge number of Pink Floyd fans in Malta.

Suffice it to say that many have been named after members of the band. Also a good number of residences are called Floyd.

Interest in the concert, in aid of the Eden Foundation, is also being shown from overseas with ticket enquiries coming from the US, Canada and Italy, among others.

Winter Moods, one of the finest local rock outfits, will open the show on the night.

Tickets start selling from Lm12; the reserved area is already sold out.

Ticket hotlines are 2123 2288, 5061 5100 (SMS) and 9980 0100 or online www.pres-malta.com.
