The PA’s new project: the ‘Beautiful Malta Initiative’
PA and Malta Mediterranean Tourism Foundation sign public-social partnership agreement
The Planning Authority is funding a new initiative “to enhance Malta and Gozo’s public spaces through the Malta Sabiħa (Beautiful Malta) Initiative ”.
The project will see the PA support the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation in creating a long-term programmes for embellishment, regeneration, and placemaking projects across Malta and Gozo, on both land and at sea.
“These projects will highlight Malta’s identity as a Mediterranean island nation and contribute to the wider vision of transforming the country into an outdoor museum,” the PA said in a statement.
The Maltese authority that approves construction projects will be using €5 million from its Development Planning Fund towards this initiative.
Funding will be disbursed in phases against approved projects, in line with established governance, reporting, and transparency procedures.
The PA also said that the initiative directly supports the priorities of Malta Vision 2050 by promoting smarter land and sea stewardship, a higher-quality and more experience-driven tourism offer, sustainability linked to blue and green economy goals, and stronger partnership-based governance through the Public Social Partnership model.
According to its website the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation was established by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) in 2013.
“The MTF is a non profit, non-governmental organisation aiming at increasing the potential for sustainable tourism growth across the Mediterranean region”.
The agreement was signed by the PA’s executive chair Johann Buttigieg, and Andrew Agius Muscat on behalf of the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation, during a ceremony presided over by planning minister Clint Camilleri.
