Celine Pace is fast establishing herself as the protagonist in the Malta contingent for the 55th FISEC Games currently underway in Salamanca.
Yesterday, the lanky athlete claimed her second gold medal in the sprints when she won the 200m final in a new national record - the second in just two days.
She then crowned a memorable day with another first placing, this time in the 4x100 relay along with Lara Scerri, Angie Mangion and Charlene Attard.
Pace, winner of the 100m race on Tuesday, yesterday dashed home first in the 200m in an impressive 24.92 to better her own previous record (25.01), set during the heats, and became the first Maltese female sprinter to go under the 25-second barrier. Scerri took bronze in the same race.
The men's 4x100 quartet, composed of Jeandre Mallia, Cliff Busuttil, Jonathan Galea and Jean Claude Micallef, completed a relay double for Malta. Edwin Zammit was another gold medal winner in javelin.
Mallia was second in the 200m race and Nathan Vella also claimed a silver medal in the 3,000m.
Lorna Mifsud, 800m, and Mangion, triple jump, were bronze medal winners. Brenda Camilleri and Alistair Bezzina had to settle for fourth places in the triple jump and 800m race.
Mangion - three medals in the pool
In swimming, Davina Mangion yesterday collected three medals - two silver and a bronze. She was second in the 400m freestyle and 200m butterfly, and third in the 50m butterfly.
Kyle Scerri was fourth in the boys' 50m butterfly as FISEC Malta officials reported personal best times for most of the other swimmers in the group.
