Duo plead guilty after being caught with drug sachets outside Paceville club
Two men caught red-handed with dozens of sachets containing drugs outside Paceville nightclubs have pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges.
The two were arrested after police received an anonymous tip-off about active drug dealing in the vicinity of the Axis complex in Paceville.
Officers spotted 30-year-old Abdikarim Isman Omar, residing in Marsascala, and 24-year-old Abdirahman Abdala Hassan, who resides in Santa Venera, after matching their appearance to the description provided in the anonymous tip.
The two, who are both Somali nationals, were near the Toy Room nightclub at the time.
When officers searched them, they found a "cocktail" of approximately 50 sachets containing suspicious white and brown substances, a court was told.
Hassan was found with 30 sachets of a white substance concealed in his trouser pocket, alongside a pipe-like object, a mobile phone, and a cigarettes.
Omar was discovered with 18 sachets of a white substance, one hard white substance, and another packet containing a brown and grey substance, all hidden inside his underwear. Both men were arrested on the spot.
During their interrogation, both men chose to waive their right to legal assistance and answered investigators’ questions.
When arraigned in court, Omar and Hassan pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.
The accused will remain in custody at Corradino Correctional Facility until their formal sentencing, which has been scheduled for October 27.
The prosecution was led by Police Inspector Dylan Pace, assisted by lawyer Nadia Ciappara from the Attorney General’s office.
Legal aid lawyer Nadia Fiott represented the men.
