Paceville will be undergoing an embellishment programme with the intention of transforming it into an upmarket tourism destination, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said on Thursday.
A budget of €10 million has been allocated for this project, which will aim to strengthen infrastructure to support this ever-growing destination and address the current "challenges".
Dr Mizzi was speaking during a meeting with all stakeholders involved in the Paceville region.
He explained that the touristic hub accommodates around 21 per cent of all guest nights in Malta and around a quarter of tourists - around 600,000 visit Paceville annually.
The project will be carried out by the Tourism Ministry, along with the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association and the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation.
The strategy is being led by international architects WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff in collaboration with Grimshaw.
During the coming months, there will be a process of engagement consultation and information mapping before a vision and high-level design is adopted, he said.
Following this phase of works, a detailed design will be drafted to start works.
