All members of the Malta Tourism Authority's staff complement, including senior management, have started utilising a palm reader time and attendance registration system.

MTA executive chairman Romwald Lungaro-Mifsud, who also signs in utilising this electronic system, said the aim of the measure is threefold:

"First of all, in case of an emergency, we need to be in a position to ascertain who is in the building. Secondly, we need to send out the message to all our stakeholders that the members of staff of the MTA, at all levels, are accountable. Finally, we are striving to make the MTA more efficient and cost-effective in its operations."

The palm reader is being used not only on arrival to and departure from the MTA's head office premises but also each time staff members are required to leave the premises and on their return.
