Paola continued on their positive stride in the women's national league last weekend after winning the top-of-the-table clash against Flyers 3-0, although one has to say that the latter proved their worth especially in the opening two sets.
Paola won a hard-fought first set 25-20 but Flyers looked the likely second set winners when taking an advantage of three points - 24-21.
Here experience took its toll. With D. Lontos on court, Paola staged a remarkable comeback to win the set 26-24. The third one was a mere formality. Flyers could not find the psychological strength needed to combat till the end.
Another interesting match was played from the men's top league when current leaders Fleur-de-Lys FEB took on surprise package Aloysians.
FEB soon took a two-set advantage as Aloysians were finding it hard to settle down at first. They played much better in the third set though, managing to go 20-15 up at one point.
However, FEB, ably led by setter and coach P. Bonett, started crawling back into contention. Eventually they claimed the set 25-21 and the match 3-0.
In other action from the senior leagues, Kerygma were slightly better than Fleur-de-Lys CFK in their women's league match, beating them 3-1.
Fleur-de-Lys took three points from their match against San Anton Beer Garden 'B', winning by the same 3-1 score.
Meanwhile, Flyers continued with their unbeaten run in the girls U-16 league, beating strong contenders Playvolley 2-0 and in the U-19 league, Fleur-de-lys CFK and Kerygma obtained three points, after beating X-Sel and San Anton Beer Garden respectively.
In the boys' U-16 league, Fleur-de-Lys are now the top team after beating Aloysians 2-1.
