In response to the letter by Maria Zammit, executive secretary of Balzan local council (September 23) and to my previous letter (September 16), I would like to inform Ms Zammit and readers that all the residents of Pope Alexander VII Junction in Balzan are aware that due to the width of the road it is difficult to accommodate parking and two-way traffic.

However, Triq San Valentin which is perpendicular to Pope Alexander VII Junction is just as narrow and yet parking bays are available.

Triq Sisner, an adjacent street, is a two-way road and yet the residents' plea to have parking on both sides of the road and two-way traffic was accepted. The narrowness of the road did not seem to hamper the building of an old people's home at the end of a cul-de-sac with no provision for parking on the premises.

As reported, the council has insisted with the administration of Casa Antonia that the staff should park in Wesgha Guzè Aquilina. This is a step in the right direction. The visitors to the home should be encouraged to do likewise. The authorities allowed the building of a home with no parking facilities, thus the least that can be done is to provide a residential parking scheme with the presence of local wardens to see that the parking regulations are being adhered to.
