The House of Representatives will be meeting this evening after the Christmas recess and will be devoting all of this week to a motion by the prime minister authorising the government to call a referendum on EU membership.

Before the debate starts Justice Minister Austin Gatt is due to move for first reading a bill on the appointment of a Commissioner for Children.

The other items on the agenda are: Bill to implement budget measures, second reading; Civil Code (amendment) Bill, second reading; the Set-Off and Netting on Insolvency Bill, second reading; the Medicines Bill, second reading; the Internal Audit and Financial Investigations Bill, second reading; motion by the prime minister on the situation in the country, continuation.
