The House of Representatives is today due to resume its debate on the Commissioner for Children Bill when it meets this afternoon. The debate started on June 3. The bill provides for the appointment of a Commissioner for Children to ensure the promotion of the welfare of children and to promote compliance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The bill also sets up a Council for Children to advise the commissioner.

The other items on the agenda are: The Internal Audit and Financial Investigations Bill, the Civil Code (amendment) Bill, the Bill to ratify the EU Accession Treaty, and the Bill on Elections to the European Parliament. All bills are being considered on second reading.
