The College of Nationalist Party Councillors has deplored what it said was the "partisan way" in which the mayor of Qormi and councillors had invited Labour leader Alfred Sant to inaugurate a public library at St George's Primary School in Qormi.

The Minister of Education only received an invitation to attend, it complained.

The college said the Labour-dominated council had ensured that the MLP received merit for initiatives taken or supported by the government.

The modernised library was inaugurated on Sunday, when Labour said that since April last year the Qormi council had spent Lm1,500 on shelving and Lm1,300 to purchase new books for the library.
