Partit Aħwa Maltin to contest all districts in May 30 election
Party aims to give voice to voters “let down by the duopoly system”
There is another party on the May 30 ballot: Partit Aħwa Maltin.
The conservative party founded in 2020 and headed by Paul Salomone, announced on Friday it will be fielding candidates in all districts.
“For the first time, the party will be present to give a voice to those who feel let down by the duopoly system,” the party’s secretary Iris Vella said.
The party said its campaign is running with the slogan ‘Malta Għall-Maltin’ (Malta for the Maltese) and is based on six key pillars that it argues directly affect the daily lives of Maltese people, namely family, overpopulation, housing, the economy, culture and animal welfare, and identity.
It said it wants to place the family at the centre of society through greater protection and support, while also calling for tighter control of immigration in response to what it describes as challenges linked to overpopulation.
On housing, the party pledged to work towards more affordable homes for young people and families, while its economic proposals focus on what it described as an economy that prioritises Maltese workers and small businesses.
It also said it is committed to safeguarding Malta’s cultural heritage and strengthening animal protection, alongside efforts to preserve national identity, including the Maltese language and traditions.
“While the PL and the PN continue to agree between themselves to maintain the duopoly, Aħwa Maltin will be present in every district. Maltese people deserve a genuine choice,” Vella said.
“‘Malta for the Maltese’ is not just a slogan – it is a promise to put the people before the party.”
