Power restored to Valletta streets after ‘more than 12 hours’

Enemalta says repairs 'started immediately' after low voltage cable fault

Updated 6.42pm

Power has been restored to a number of streets in Valletta after "more than 12 hours" following a low voltage cable fault which developed overnight.

A number of residents in Valletta spent most of Friday without power after the fault affected several streets.

A spokesperson for Enemalta said the fault affected buildings in parts of St Ursula Street, St Christopher Street, and Triq il-Mediterran.

The fault developed in the early hours of Friday morning and repair works  “started immediately”.

The spokesperson confirmed power was restored at 6.30pm on Friday evening, more than 12 hours later.

He added that electricity faults in Valletta are “particularly difficult” to repair as all infrastructure is underground.

“It is not so easy,” he added.

In a social media post, Enemalta said its teams are “on site and making every effort to restore the electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible”.
