Power restored to Valletta streets after hours-long outage
Enemalta says repairs 'started immediately' after low voltage cable fault
Updated June 6
Power has been restored to a number of streets in Valletta following a low-voltage cable fault which developed overnight.
A number of residents in Valletta spent most of Friday without power after the fault affected several streets.
Enemalta said the outage lasted "more than 12 hours". But residents who spoke to Times of Malta disputed that and said some households had gone more than 30 hours without power.
A spokesperson for Enemalta said the fault affected buildings in parts of St Ursula Street, St Christopher Street, and Triq il-Mediterran.
The fault developed in the early hours of Friday morning and repair works “started immediately”.
The spokesperson confirmed power was restored at 6.30pm on Friday evening.
He added that electricity faults in Valletta are “particularly difficult” to repair as all infrastructure is underground.
“It is not so easy,” he added.
In a social media post, Enemalta said its teams are “on site and making every effort to restore the electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible”.
