St Paul's Bay local council has agreed on a policy regarding the widening of pavements for business establishments to set up tables and chairs outside their outlets.

The council said in a statement that every application for the widening of a pavement would be considered on its own merits because not every zone would allow such widening.

In view of this policy, the council was inviting all interested parties to submit their application, including their proposal for the widening of the pavement, always depending on where such changes were possible to introduce.

Applicants will have to bear the cost of the works.

The council warned that steps would be taken against anyone who abused this policy.
