Peace Lab. extends hospital library service

The Peace Lab. of Hal Far will be extending its hospital library service with another lending library at St Luke's Hospital's orthopaedic ward as from next month.

The Peace Lab. has been running the library at the hospital's children's Fairyland ward for the past 30 years.

Peace Lab. director Fr Dionysius Mintoff told The Times that the Fairyland library is in the care of volunteers Antoinette Farrugia and Marthese Mifsud and is open every Tuesday from 4 - 6 p.m.

Fr Mintoff was particularly pleased at the official recognition given by the health authorities to the Peace Lab. for providing the library service. In fact, Ms Farrugia and Ms Mifsud were recently presented with a small sum of money by the authorities as a token of appreciation for their services.

Fr Mintoff was also presented with a letter of appreciation for the library initiative.

So much was the appreciation that the Health Ministry suggested the Peace Lab. extend its library initiative to older patients. This led to the opening of the library at the orthopaedic ward next month.

The Peace Lab. is on the lookout for volunteers to man the library for a few hours once a week.
