The shocking 1977 murder has remained unsolved
Updated 9.15pm with Opposition leader's condolences.
The prime minister on Tuesday led tributes following the death of Pearl Grech, the mother of 1977 letter bomb victim Karin Grech.
"Pearl Grech was a woman who, in the most difficult moments for her family, never once said a divisive word," Robert Abela said in a Facebook post.
"She lost her daughter in the most cruel and cowardly way. Justice was not served for her family, including her late lamented husband, Prof Edwin Grech," Abela wrote as he expressed his condolences.
Karin Grech was killed aged 15 as she opened a letter addressed to her father on 28 December 1977, at the height of a doctors' strike. Her father, a gynaecologist, had at the time returned from the UK to work in government hospitals.
Grech later served as minister for social policy in the Sant government between 1996 and 1998. He died in 2023.
Opposition leader Bernard Grech, a relative, also expressed his condolences.
"Dear Aunt Pearl, the time has come for you to join your dead daughter Karin," he wrote.
"You can finally hug her with tears of joy and not sorrow. Your heart has suffered enough, now rest in peace."
San Ġwann parish said Pearl Grech's funeral will be held at the parish church on Saturday at 8.30am.
