The Pembroke Kyocera Mita Road Races, held under the auspices of the MAAA, will take place on Sunday, April 6.
Pembroke Athleta, the organisers of this event which is fast establishing itself as a spring tradition with an entry of 1,500 participants, aim to continue to build on the popularity achieved in recent years.
The Pembroke Road Races, now in their ninth edition, were launched at a news conference on Friday. Supporting Pembroke Athleta in the organisation of this event are Kyocera Mita Copiers, the councils of Pembroke and Swieqi, the government and other sponsors such as Red Bull, Nike, Gatorade, Subway, Vodafone, Fiat and Fontana.
In the 10k event, trophies will be awarded to the first five runners in both the men's and women's races. Cash vouchers of Lm30, Lm25 and Lm20 will be presented to the top three in each category. A free membership for six months at the Westin Dragonara Health and Fitness centre will be awarded to the winners.
Trophies will also be awarded to all the winners in each age groups and to the first Pembroke and Swieqi residents.
For the Nike 3km race, open for youths born in 1988 and 1989, besides awards for the under-age winners, trophies will be given to the first four in both the boys' and girls' categories. In the Sedqa 3km race for youngsters born in 1990 and 1991, the awards will be identical, while in the 1.3km fun run by Gatorade, a trophy will go to the first Pembroke and Swieqi residents.
Due to the new regulations entering into force this year, there will be no competitive races for youngsters born after 1991, but everyone can take part in the fun run instead.
As in other years, a shield that is kept for one year shall again be awarded to the club, school or group with the highest participation.
All events start and finish near the Pembroke club and marshals will line all routes.
Participants should collect their race numbers and other information from the Pembroke Sports Club in the days before the race, as advised on the application forms, which can be collected from the club premises at William Harding Street, Pembroke, the local council premises, schools and other athletic clubs.
